Fifteen of the high-end cars will be judged to see which one is the best inside the Cache County Events Center. They will also bring the public together and give them a chance to vote for people’s choice. The builders will be judged and given a first, second, third and people’s choice award. The car show will be at the fairgrounds as in the past. The car show is the meat and potatoes of the Cruise-In.

The most eye-catching aspect of Kim’s truck was its PPG paint job; the finish is a water-based product called “Vibrance,” and Kim named his truck the Rattlesnake. This year’s Cruise-In boasts several events including the traditional poker run on Thursday — taking folks to different locations around Cache Valley. Later that evening, Douglas said there will be a burn-out contest at Green Canyon High School. They are holding a Top Rod of Utah, or battle of the builders contest.

The great thing about the Cache Valley Cruise-In was the diversity of cars and people. Many vehicles were completely original and preserved, while others had been heavily modified. Kim Tomlinson from Lindon was showing his custom 1949 Chevrolet five-window pickup.

The Cache Valley Cruise-In is a rod run event held annually in Logan, Utah (90 miles north of Salt Lake City) and is hosted by the Cache Valley Cruising Association. All types and models of specialty vehicles are invited to attend. It all started in 1982 with a group of five people working together to organize the first Cache Valley Cruise-In.

Originally, the parade was organized to make the thousands of cars cruising up and down Main Street easier to manage, Douglas said. Larin Lind stands next to his 1950 Chevy pickup truck which has been customized and will be in this weekend’s Cruise-In car show. Karen Higley said her family liked the wide assortment of vehicles in the parade. Previously longtime Wellsville residents, Higley, her husband, Jeremy and their children now live in North Logan as they build a home in Preston.

This beautiful 40th Anniversary Corvette comes as a Ruby Red C4 Coupe. Total production for all 1993 Corvettes in ’93 was 23,330. Tickets can be purchased at the door, or at Lee’s Marketplace, for $10 for adults 18-years and older.

Lining Logan’s Main Street Saturday evening, spectators of the Cruise-In parade tried to pick their own favorites as they enjoyed front yard barbecues, parking lot picnics and the company of family and friends. Chantel Nielson and Donald Page enjoyed the parade with their children, Garrett, Conner and Bella, and Nielson’s father, Clay Ricks. When your ticket is scanned you will be provided a wrist band to allow reentry to the fairgrounds if you need to leave for the restroom or a snack.

While the car show was the keystone event of the weekend, the event encompassed much more, including a swap meet, a Beach Boys concert, and a Main Street parade. A photo gallery from Robert K. Scott can be found at this link from Cache Valley Daily. The CVCA was organized in 1982 along with the first Cruise-In (known until 1990 as Logan’s Run). We incorporated in 1991 as a nonprofit organization governed by a set of bylaws that provide for a club president and board of directors.
